Privacy Policy
Effective date: February 22, 2026
1. Who We Are
RodePulse is a motorcycle proximity alerting app developed by RodePulse. If you have questions about this policy or how your data is handled, contact us at support@rodepulse.com. This policy describes how we handle information when you use the RodePulse iOS app.
2. What We Collect
We collect only what is strictly necessary to deliver the proximity alert service:
- Anonymous session ID — randomly generated and never tied to your name, email address, Apple ID, or any device identity. You do not create an account and we cannot identify you as an individual.
- Location data (latitude, longitude, speed, heading, accuracy) — collected only while the app is active and used solely to detect nearby vehicles. Location is never stored in historical or aggregate form.
- In-app preferences (alert distance, volume, active role) — stored to persist your settings across sessions. These preferences contain no personal information.
How Your Location Is Shared With Other Users
When you activate protection, your real-time location (latitude, longitude, speed, and heading) is shared with other RodePulse users in your geographic vicinity for the purpose of proximity alerts. Specifically: Motorcyclist location is shared with nearby Drivers within your alert distance (default 1,000 meters). Driver location is shared with nearby Motorcyclists to enable mutual awareness. No name, email address, Apple ID, or persistent identity is attached to this shared data — only your anonymous session ID and current location are transmitted.
3. What We Do NOT Collect
- Name, email address, phone number, Apple ID, or any personal identifier
- Contacts, photos, calendar, messages, or any data unrelated to proximity detection
- Advertising identifiers (IDFA) or cross-app tracking data
- Historical trip routes, GPS logs, or location history
- Payment information of any kind
4. Background Location Access — Why It Is Required
RodePulse requires background location and background network access to deliver its core safety function. Here is exactly why each is needed:
- Motorcyclist role: Your phone broadcasts your location to warn nearby drivers, even when the app is not open. This is the core safety function — without background location, drivers cannot be warned of your presence.
- Driver role: The app receives real-time proximity data from nearby motorcyclists without requiring you to keep the app in the foreground while driving. Background access means you can focus on the road.
- Background network (both roles): The app exchanges proximity data with our servers and updates your Lock Screen Live Activity in real time. Background network access is required so proximity state updates reach your device without keeping the app in the foreground.
We access your location only for proximity calculations — never for advertising, analytics, profiling, or any purpose other than road safety.
5. Data Retention — 7-Day Maximum
- Your location data is deleted from our servers immediately when you sign out of the app.
- Location data is automatically marked inactive after a short period without an update and is no longer used for proximity calculations. All data is permanently deleted within 7 days.
- A server-side automated process runs daily and permanently deletes all location and preference data older than 7 days from our servers.
- We do not store historical routes, aggregate location history, or personally identifiable trip data at any time.
- Because we never collect personal identifiers, there is no “account” to delete — all data ages out automatically within 7 days of inactivity. No deletion request is needed.
6. Third-Party Processors
We use the following third-party services to operate the app. No advertising networks, analytics SDKs, or data brokers receive your data.
- Google — Our primary infrastructure provider for data storage, server logic, anonymous session management, and push notification delivery. Your data is processed under Google's Cloud Data Processing Addendum, which includes Standard Contractual Clauses for international data transfers.
- Apple Inc. — Proximity alert notifications are delivered through Apple's notification infrastructure on iOS devices. Apple acts as a delivery intermediary; no message content beyond proximity alert data passes through Apple's servers. Apple's privacy policy is at https://www.apple.com/privacy/.
European Economic Area (EEA) and United Kingdom Users
Your location data is processed by Google under Google's Cloud Data Processing Addendum, which includes Standard Contractual Clauses for international data transfers. The lawful basis for processing is your consent, given by choosing to activate protection within the app. You may withdraw consent at any time by signing out, which immediately deletes your location data.
7. No Sale of Data
We do not sell, rent, license, or share your information with any third party for commercial purposes. Ever.
California Residents (CCPA): We do not sell or share your personal information as defined by the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA). Because we collect no personal identifiers, there is no personal information to disclose or delete beyond what is automatically handled by signing out.
8. Your Rights and Controls
- Sign out at any time to immediately delete your location data from our servers.
- All data is automatically deleted within 7 days of inactivity — no account deletion request is needed.
- Because we collect no personal identifiers, we cannot link any stored data to a specific individual. If you have privacy questions, contact us at support@rodepulse.com.
9. Children
The RodePulse app is rated 17+ on the Apple App Store and is intended for licensed drivers and motorcyclists. We do not knowingly collect any data from anyone under the age of 17. If you believe a user under 17 has used the app, contact us at support@rodepulse.com and we will ensure any associated data is deleted.
10. Changes to This Policy
If we make material changes to this policy, we will update the “Effective date” at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this page periodically. Continued use of the app after a material change constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
